Tsukuru Tazaki is heading amazom.co.jp's bestseller list. It
is already for sale second-hand. The book has received 92 customer reviews to
date.
Among them, one reviewer holds that the book will not appeal
to as many as the previous one, as the protagonist, Tsukuru Tazaki, is not someone who invites identification to the same degree as characters of earlier Murakami
novels. Moreover, as the novel is full of the usual motifs and tropes, old
Murakami hands might find it trite. Nevertheless he seems to bring the third
person telling which he has been so obsessed with in recent books, to near
perfection in this story, and the book is suffused by a calm and serene beauty,
which in itself makes it worth reading. Says one reviewer.
