Not everyone is amused.



Quoting a story of the launch of the book and how Japanese salary men interrupted their commutes to buy it, the blogger Constellation-Funk writes:


... I think this is why Murakami irritates me so much. If he was just a run of the mill subpar writer I could just move on with my life but he’s a subpar writer that seems to halt civilization as we know it every time a new book of his comes out, and he also somehow manages to be loved by the literary cognoscenti even though he’s not…good. Dan Brown sells like a billion copies in a weekend, sure, but Dan Brown isn’t also swooned over by The Atlantic and NYT Book Review and other “serious” publications and scholars ...
