The legions of fans of literary great Haruki Murakami should circle April 12 on their calendars.
That is the date Murakami’s first novel in three years will be published, Bungei Shunju Ltd. announced on March 15.
The publisher also unveiled the book title: “Shikisai o Motanai Tazaki Tsukuru to, Kare no Junrei no Toshi” (Tsukuru Tazaki, who does not have colors, and his year of pilgrimage).
Murakami's last major work, “1Q84: Book 3,” the final volume of a trilogy, was published in April 2010 by Shinchosha Publishing Co.
Reservations will be accepted at bookstores across the nation and online.
“Since ’1Q84’ was a story somewhat like a roller coaster, I wanted to write something different,” Murakami said in comments he sent to Bungei Shunju. “But I didn’t know what it would be like until I actually started writing.”
Murakami, famed for “Norwegian Wood” and other works, has long been tipped to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
